So, you’re retired. Now what?

“OMG, you’re retired already? What are you going to do?!”

Seriously? Ok, here’s an entry for what I did during my first week of retirement:

Thursday: DID NOT LOG IN NOR CARE ABOUT WORK. Got up on time, drove to My Mechanics Place, changed my oil, then went to a bar for lunch, then got a haircut. While I was at the bar I HAD A BEER FOR LUNCH! ON A WORK DAY.

The Haircut

Thursday night: Fooling around with settings for new filament in my 3D printer, attended a special planetarium tour at EMU, previewing their new projector, then up to the rooftop to view the moon, Jupiter and Mars from their telescope in the Dome(Thanks, Ken!), STAYING UP LATE. ON A WORK NIGHT.

Friday: DID NOT LOG IN NOR CARE ABOUT WORK. I went to a movie(The Menu, very dark foodie movie). IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY. ON A WORK DAY. More fooling around with 3D printer settings.

Friday night: Karaoke with some of my church drinking buddies

Saturday: honey-do, hung up new curtain rod in the bedroom, Watched US fall to the Netherlands, structured 3D printer setting experiments(I’ve got to get this right).

Saturday night: party with theater/singer friends, where I sat in on bass with the band

Party Time!

Sunday: came home from party at 2:30am, left for church at 8:30am, played bass at church, came home, turned on the Lions game and fell asleep. Woke up and watched the Lions win. Aaron says “Wow, you’re now on my schedule” They are a night owl. Done with printer experiments, kicked off a huge print I designed for Aria, a 3-tiered shelf for her markers. Started watching Wednesday with Cyndi.

Monday: DID NOT LOG IN NOR CARE ABOUT WORK. brunch with a friend, then to the Henry Ford Museum to see the Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume exhibit. ALL DAY. ON A WORK DAY. Started working out.

Tuesday: DID NOT LOG IN NOR CARE ABOUT WORK. Worked in the garage on the new fuel and brake lines for my ’63, got a water pik and learned to use it. Researched garage heaters and garage insulation. Take out the trash, do the dishes, do laundry

Wednesday: DID NOT LOG IN NOR CARE ABOUT WORK. Worked out again, dentist appointment, then IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY drove to meet a friend at the Hamburg Senior Center as a guest for a genuine honest to goodness Q-tip old folks bus tour to a restaurant, complete with buffet and Frank Sinatra impersonator, followed by visit to Michigan International Speedway to see the Nite Lites display. Move over, Great Giant Pumpkin, I discovered the Christmas Manatee:

Thursday: DID NOT LOG IN NOR CARE ABOUT WORK. Got out of bed late(about 9:30) pulled the finished print off the 3D printer(106 hours!), shipped it to Aria, went to EMU support my compadre, Ken, at his senior project presentation IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY! Start a JIRA project for Things That Need Doing, swept the kitchen, start watching Andor with Aaron.

You get the idea: wake up early, NOT LOG INTO WORK, NOT CARE ABOUT WORK, exercise about every other day, do things that I want to do when I want to do it, and not worry if I can’t finish that day.

Of course, I will do more Things that Need Doing. We have a long list, which is why I started the JIRA project to collect and organize them. I am doing more cooking, even if I have to pester Cyndi for dinner ideas(I’m just not creative in the kitchen yet), I do plan to blog more often, now that I have time, but not every day. That’s what.
