Adam and Dad ride a Time Trial

This morning, Adam and Dad rode in an individual time trial, the first ‘real’ event of the season. This is no spring training series, and is the first time Dad has raced in a very looooooong time. So long that Dad had to enter as  ‘Masters 35-44 year old’. Special category with a nice name for old farts.
The course consisted of 6 laps around one of the local parks, for a total of just over 13 miles. How did we do? Let’s just say it was very educational. Adam did the course in little over 51 minutes, and Dad did it in little over 45 minutes, including a short detour into the finishing area one lap too soon! Both of us went too hard on the first lap, and spent much of the remaining laps recovering. Dad should know better, but he didn’t know his legs as well as he used to. Adam seems to have recovered pretty quickly from the ride, but Dad’s legs still hurt. And Dad has a hockey game tonight; coincidentally the hockey game will last about the same time, around 45 minutes on the ice.
Again, there was lots of support for the juniors from the coaches and the parents, helping them get ready, count laps and cheering every time they rode by the start finish line. Although he was aiming to ride good enough for a medal, Adam says he had a good time. Dad was aiming not to die, and managed to pull that off. “It was very tiring and I got passed alot, but it was pretty fun. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…” says Adam. He then ate three strawberry French toast and a danish for lunch.
